Fudgy holiday treats

December 2, 2007

I am known to give holiday goods out at Christmas time. A lot of friends and co-workers get loaded up with all kinds of sweet treats.

But this year, I am going to add fudge to my repertoire. Before Thanksgiving, I had only made it once, and it turned out horrible. Since then, I’ve always been scared to try it again. But I test this recipe and found it completely easy and uncomplicated. Just the way I like it.

 Not melted.

Melted.

I’ve never used sweetened condensed milk before, so melting that with the chocolate was interesting. It turned out really smooth, and tasted yummy on my fingertips :)

I got the recipe from Nestle, and if you want, you could do other variations to this simple recipe. They had some marshmallow & peanut butter add ins. Even though I love them, I left out the walnuts this time. But next time, I think I will toss some in.

Word of caution: the squares need to set up overnight. The recipe says they only need a couple of hours but if you leave them in the fridge overnight, they will stand up better.

Easy Chocolate Fudge

Ingredients:

Directions:

Line 8inch square baking pan with foil (but I just used an 8inch foil pan to save time and effort).

Combine morsels and sweetened condensed milk in medium, heavy-duty saucepan. Warm over lowest possible heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat; stir in nuts and vanilla extract. Spread evenly into prepared baking pan. Refrigerate for 2 hours or until firm. Lift from pan; remove foil. Cut into pieces.

Fudge squares can last forever (seriously) in our fridge. I still have mine, and they make a nice treat at night. They’d make great holiday treats, all wrapped up nicely with a bow. Enjoy!
