the real stuff

Turn off your American Idol, and zone out from the constant important “news”the media drills into us.I mean, who really cares if Angelina is having twins,or who the new Hollywood couple is. An estimated 50,000 people are fear dead in China. Millions of homes, hospitals, schools are gone. Important infrastructure has been wiped out. Imagine 1 in 10 of your friends/neighbors/co-workers gone.

Close your eyes and whisper a small prayer.Be grateful that you are not lost in this tragedy.

first the cyclone in in burma/myanmar (not to mention the problems with relief aid), and now the quake in china…both terrible and tragic.

Yes, it is very sad. I agree with you. I think I watch about 2 hours of tv per week. And if we all paid more attention to this stuff and did something about it, it certainly would be a better world.

I just get so frustrated with the media nowadays. For instance, this morning on the Today show, there was a a 5 minute blip on the earthquake, but there was a 10 minute segment on pet vaccinations and a “special” interview with Angelina Jolie. Are they for real?!?! Does the news only care about certain events when it only pertains to us i.e. 9/11?! I am just so disappointed….

It’s so insane that the only place I’ve heard about Myanmar on the news is on NPR… why are we all not talking about this!?!

Seeing you post about it is really good though, thank you Amanda.

It is the look of resignation on these poor people’s faces that is the saddest thing of all – To think of those poor little children is heartbreaking. What a sad world when we consider celebrity more newsworthy. Well done for an amzing thought-provoking post. Hx

I agree Robin. It’s one thing if the media doesn’t cover it but I have yet to hear anyone in my classes or at work talk about these horrible events happening across the Pacific. Half the people I know probably don’t care, and that is just uncalled for.

These stories are breaking my heart – it’s truly such a tragedy, and I wish more than anything it hadn’t happened.
