no better time

While traveling is a big hobby of mine, I love that minute when you walk in to your home and everything calms down. Flights, packing, rental cars, blah blah blah. Nothing matters the minute you walk through those doors. My work trip was good, and my nerves weren’t too rattled to deliver a satisfactory presentation. But being away from my home, and not having any time to myself took a big toll on me. I’m a pretty private and independent person and I’ve never needed my private time more than after a long social week.

After catching up on sleep and slowly unpacking, my friend Julia and I made our way out of town to the glorious apple orchards and farms in Apple Hill. Located an hour outside of Sacramento, our annual trips to Apple Hill have become a favorite pasttime. I remember going as a kid and enjoying the hot apple cider, corn mazes, caramel apples, and apple picking.

This time around, the traffic was horrendous (stupid two-lane highways) but that didn’t stop me from grabbing some goodies. The Gala apples I picked were damn delicious! I can’t wait to dive in to the apple pie I bought and savor my jug of apple cider.

amazing photography
i love apple hill, going there is my favorite fall ritual.
I’d love to go there, the caramel apples look delicious! Did you taste the pie already? (:
mmm, I’m a sucker for apple cider, but I can’t find any here, strangely enough! I do love the fall so much. Glad the trip went well!
xo
The apples look very VERY appealing…
Hi Amanda,
I enjoy reading your blog. I normally don’t comment on blog sites, but I am so interested in Apple Hill. I have wanted to go for a couple of years (I live in the bay area), but hate the drive, especially on a weekend. Ick. I think I am ready to make the trek, but wanted to know a couple of things. Do you need or recommend taking the shuttle service? I just wanted to visit a couple of places, is that possible? If so, which ones do you recommend. I am looking for apples and cider and the overall experience. Sorry for all the questions, but you seem to be the perfect person to ask!
Hey Teresa,
I love Apple Hill and I’d highly recommend it for you. That being said, going on the weekend is practically suicidal unless you get to Apple Hill super early. If you get there around lunchtime, you will be stuck in traffic. Really, REALLY bad traffic. But, if you go, visit the High Hill Farm as they have a really pretty picnic area. And try to hit the Boa Vista Orchard and Farm because of their products. Apple cider, frozen apple pie, caramel apples, apple butter. You name it, they have it. Hope this helps!
What a beautiful blog you have here. I look forward to reading more. I share your sentiments about flying (I am such a baby) and Madmen … best show ever. I’m about halfway through season two.
