warm drinks for cold nights

December 8, 2009

Guys, this weather is nutty. It’s officially 21 degrees outside. I’m huddled up in my bed, with a beanie, scarf, and hoodie on. Obviously, us Californians aren’t used to this kind of weather, and while most of you deal with this bitter cold on a daily basis, my poor little bones can’t take it. I love winter, but this is too much. I mean, it hasn’t snowed in Sacramento in 5 or 6 years, but on Sunday, snow lightly fell upon our foothills.
While I long to stay inside all day, with a good book and movie, I’m a working girl and my bills must be paid.

But, to kick off the holiday season, I’ve started treating myself to a nightly cocktail. I’ve been making hot cocoa with a generous helping of Bailey’s and a dollop of peppermint whipped cream. At the end of my 12-hour-day, nothing tastes as delightful as that rich, silky hot drink. The next time you are feeling a little exhausted or drained, grab a bottle of Baileys and some hot cocoa and enjoy. Trust me, it works wonders…

I live in New England, so I won’t even comment on the weather part. You just don’t want to know.

But I agree with the nightly cocktail, I got a Costco sized bottle of Kahlua, and my drink of choice is currently the white russian.

It might get down to 8 with -15 windchills tonight in Chicago. I’m not sure I am ready for full on winter yet.

Is it bad that I could go for a mug of that right now and its only 10AM??

This weather is totally crazy. It’s 18 degrees here in Seattle. I moved to the Pacific Northwest to get away from this kind of weather, but with the summer heatwave and this cold front, I think I might have brought the weather with me!

I’m going to have to take a leaf out of your book tonight. Yummy.

Boston weather was pure evil yesterday! Hot chocolate is my saving grace…I may or may not have had three consecutive cups last night haha. The Bailey’s addition sounds wonderful!
