Christmas giveaway

One reason why I love Christmas is the gift-giving. I love finding unique presents for my loved ones; in fact, I’d rather spend money on others than on myself. Strange, I know. But as I finished up my Christmas shopping this past weekend, I thought of all you, my faithful and crazy readers. You show such dedication with your comments and email, and I’ve got nothing for you! Shame!
“A giveaway is needed,” I thought to myself. I spent all weekend thinking of prizes for you all. I wish I could send you bottles of Baileys, whipped cream, and packets of hot cocoa, but that might be a little weird. Instead, I picked up some little treats and compiled them in to one big present for a lucky reader.
To enter the giveaway, tell me what your favorite Christmas dessert is in the comment section. Don’t forget to leave your current email address so I can get ahold of you. The giveaway deadline is tomorrow, Wednesday, December 16 at 3 p.m (Pacific Standard Time). This giveaway is good for only my United States readers; sorry, my international folks. I will get to you in due time, I promise.
Happy holidays to all of you! If I had enough time/money, I’d schedule a big fat meetup where we can all laugh over hot drinks and good food. For now, this small giveaway will have to do. You have 24 hours to tell me what your Christmas dessert is. Get cracking and good luck :)

Peppermint Bark by far. I love the marriage of peppermint and chocolate during the holidays.
eggnog!
My family always had a big cookie platter with all of our different types of cookies for dessert. Nothing means Christmas more to me than cut out decorated sugar cookies!
My Mom’s hello dolly bars :)
I’m partial to my grandmother’s star cookies. They’re a shortbread cookie with margarine, brown sugar, and flour, but she always cuts them in star shapes, so that’s what they are! They’re fantastic!
My favourite dessert to eat is a chocolate and orange tart I love to make because I get to caramelize oranges. The house always smells especially Christmasy afterwards! But one of my favourite desserts to make is cinnamon roles for my dad, although he calls them “snails”.
My favorite x-mas dessert is my mother’s snowballs. Scoops of vanilla ice cream rolled in shredded coconut with a blue candle on top.
Tomorrow is, huh, Wednesday the 16th (you got me freaking out and running to check a calendar because I start a new job on the 16th which is, not Thursday but definitely tomorrow).
That being said, I have to admit that I am so NOT a fan of “la buche de Noel” which I would inevitably get, loaded with chestnut puree, and covered with buttercream, every CHristmas as a kid…. I guess now, I am happy with cookies, gingerbread men, and clementines, much easier to nibble on after a huge dinner!
haha thanks!! I obviously didn’t have enough coffee today :)
Cookies, because I can eat more than one. Well I can eat more than one of most desserts, but I feel allowed to eat more than one cookie. My favorite for the holiday is called the pecan puff, and it’s rolled in powdered sugar, so it is extra messy. Yum.
I love to have cheesecake during the holidays. It’s so not healthy, but it’s so yummy!
i love my mom’s sour cream coffee cake she makes for xmas day. all the adults binge on it with coffee while the kids wait oh so patiently to open presents. heehee
a big fat meetup sounds great. im totally in!
Yes!!! A meetup is a must :) I say we meet up in SF for a big fatty drink and bakery trip.
helllls yes! i am sooo down!
Definitely has to be cheesecake, or sugar cookies! :)
We always make peppermint chocolate popcorn during the holidays. SO GOOD!
My favorite Christmas dessert would have to be my moms ginger cookies. They are perfectly spiced and chewy.
My favorite Christmas Dessert is my Mom’s Rum Cake ===> a whole bottle of Rum! If I’m not careful, my Husband would eat it all in one sitting =)!
Rum cake???!! Oh yes!
All kinds of cookies, cakes, and pies…I have a very open mind when it comes to Christmas desserts! I love all of them!!! :)
Happy Holidays to YOU too!
Can’t go wrong with soft gingerbread cookies and hot chocolate!
The one thing I look forward to ALL YEAR LONG is mom’s brown sugar cinnamon kringle with a light almond-y glaze. A gooey, decadent treat that we eat for breakfast, lunch, supper, snack, dessert… Ohhh I can’t wait to be home in Wisconsin and diving into that!
Cheers and Happy Holidays,
*Heather*
I love Czechoslavakian moonbeam cookies! Oh, and anything chocolate. . .
It isn’t a dessert, but every year my family makes cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning. As I have gotten older, I look forward to eating Christmas brunch more than opening presents (but only slightly more!).
I think I’m going to start this tradition for Christmas mornings.
I love all kinds of Christmas themed chocolate candy. I’m really excited to go home and eat some, because my Halloween candy officially ran out yesterday. To be totally honest, I love all holiday Chocolate candy. However, if I’m going to make a dessert for the table, Martha Stewart has a simple, easy, delicious recipe for Chocolate Pecan Pie.
peppermint ice cream with hot fudge!
Red velvet cupcakes :)
When it comes to this time of year, my mom goes all out on the baked goods. My favorite is probably her orange Christmas bread with orange glaze or her homemade fudge. Oh and don’t forget the chocolate-covered pretzels or pumpkin chocolate cheesecake! And I wonder why my clothes don’t fit right after the holidays… heheh
pecan and pumpkin pie
I love raspberry shortbread bars!!! after making them last year they’ve become a staple!! yummm (not good for my waistline though) ;)
Without a doubt, date bread. I could eat a whole loaf by myself in a day. Oh man, oh man…
I love my great grandma’s homemade sugar cookies with sprinkles. Also the thumbprint peanut butter cookies with chocolate kisses in the middle. Oh, and chocolate covered pretzels!
My favorite sweet of the season is my dad’s Pumpkin Chiffon Pie – just a bit lighter and more delectable than your average pumpkin pie. It’s always disappeared by night’s end!
Russian Teacakes are a holiday staple in my family and has been for as long as I can remember! The recipe we use only makes so many, so it makes every bite extra special (and delicious).
Ooh, twinkly lights :) My favorite holiday sweet is definitely peppermint bark. Major yum.
Tie between newly discovered hot chocolate cake and my mom’s russian tea cake cookies…swoon. So yummay.
I know it sounds silly, but my favorite dessert is a big bowl of air-popped popcorn…eaten in front of the fire pace at my parent’s house while gazing at the twinking lights of the Christmas tree. :)
Favorite Christmas dessert is a fresh-from-the-oven-warm Gingerbread man cookie with some coconut milk ice cream.
Bouche de noel. Yum!
mexican wedding cakes! :)
Easy, I’m a sucker (no pun intended) for candy canes!
I’m a fan of the mini ones too!
My Grams Christmas cookies. Her Sandtarts are the best!!!!
I love the peanut butter crackers dipped in white chocolate. My family looks forward to receiving these every year!
I love the yule log that is a requirement every year. I hope to make ice cream snowballs to go with it this year!
What a fun giveaway! Everyone loves a nice surprise! :)
Pecan Pie, all the way.
Moist, dense pumpkin bread – lots of pecans. And only from my grandmother’s recipe. So good!
my mom’s peanut butter blossoms. i only eat them at christmas, and she makes them just for me! =)
Definitely pizzelles. I love both making and eating them. :)
Pecan Pie. YUM.
Thanks for the giveaway! :)
My aunt’s linzer torte! It totally makes me think of christmas at her house YUM!
I’ve never made a linzer torte. I might need to try it out!
Champorado. It’s a simple Filipino dessert consisting of sticky rice and cocoa powder. It’s basically chocolate rice pudding. Some people put milk and sugar into it. I have a habit of using sweetened condensed milk. And it always tastes best when served warm.
I have very fond memories of Christmas morning waking up cold and hungry. But instead of eating a hot bowl of oatmeal or cold cereal, I got to eat champorado. As a kid, getting the chance to eat chocolate for breakfast was the best.
Thanks for always having amazing blog posts and recipes. I have impressed many with your recipes and always recommend your recipes to anyone for every reason under the sun. Thanks again!
Chocolate chip poundcake!
Banana Pudding. Its my favorite thing that my mom makes and I always request it.
It’s shame I’ve only had the boxed banana pudding. Gross, huh?
My mother makes pecan tassies every year for christmas eve. That’s my fave christmas treat!
I love Italian pignoli cookies which are also known as Amaretti cookies. They shout “Christmas” from the top of the Christmas tree and I was fortunate enough to get a recipe from a dear friend who passed along a treasured family favorite.
My Great Aunt Mary’s Christmas salad – full of fruit, jello, whipped cream and tapioca…. It’s not my favorite just because it’s yummy, but also because I can’t eat it without remembering lovely Christmas dinners from my childhood.
My favorite Christmas dessert is a sugar cookie. I know, I know not as exciting as say tarts or those triple layer cakes but these are not just any sugar cookie. My grandma started making them from a recipe in the Joy of Cooking when my dad was a kid. She passed the recipe down to my parents and we have made them every year for as long as I can remember. My sister and I would invite our friends over to help decorate and by the time we were finished there was more frosting on the kitchen counter than on some of the cookies. I’m going to visit my parents this Friday and I can’t wait to make our cookies!
Pecan pie!
Oooh, all these comments have me hungry. But my holiday favorite is Mexican Wedding Cake cookies. Covered with powdered sugar, they remind me of snow.
Every desert at Christmas is yummy. But I have to say my favorite(s) is between two.
Ferrero Rocher cheesecake
& chocolate chip ricotta cookies.
Happy Holidays!
If I have to choose ONE, I’d go with homemade decorated sugar cookies. On the savoury side, I greatly relish ham and baked beans — that’s a Christmas Eve tradition in my family!
Happy Christmas!
My aunt always makes a crockenbouche – I love it. It’s so pretty and festive.
Caramel pie. The recipe is on the Carnation Sweetened Condensed Milk can, and we only have it at Christmas, and its AMAZING!!!!!! Definitely my favorite pie of all time.
any dessert with mint and chocolate is a winner in my book this time of the year!
I love dark chocolate covered almonds and bittersweet truffles. Brownies, cookies, and cheesecake are irresistible too!
oh my gosh– mine’s eggnog (well-spiked) for sure! i really, really want to make homemade this year, and i hope i can around to it!
My Dad’s chocolate chip cookies! For YEARS he had us convinced he had a secret recipe–it was only a couple years ago I found out that it’s the recipe off of the bag of the Nestle chocolate chip bag! They still taste better when he makes them though…and I’ve tried to replicate them many times!
My favorite Christmas desert is my mom’s sugar cookies. They tastes to good when you know someone spent time cutting them out.
Mince pies.
Or Christmas pudding with lots of hard sauce. mmm
Anise cookies.
They require 30 mins of mixing, so before the days of the mighty KitchenAid, my mom got into the habit of only making them once a year at Christmas.
In my family, we called them Mexican Wedding Cake cookies, but I’ve also seen them called Russian Tea Cakes. Such a simple recipe, pecans, butter, flour, confectioner’s sugar and they taste yummy!
I love gingerbread! It just reminds me of home!
cherry yum-yum
Plum pudding with hard sauce.
