Christmas giveaway

One reason why I love Christmas is the gift-giving. I love finding unique presents for my loved ones; in fact, I’d rather spend money on others than on myself. Strange, I know. But as I finished up my Christmas shopping this past weekend, I thought of all you, my faithful and crazy readers. You show such dedication with your comments and email, and I’ve got nothing for you! Shame!

“A giveaway is needed,” I thought to myself. I spent all weekend thinking of prizes for you all. I wish I could send you bottles of Baileys, whipped cream, and packets of hot cocoa, but that might be a little weird. Instead, I picked up some little treats and compiled them in to one big present for a lucky reader.

To enter the giveaway, tell me what your favorite Christmas dessert is in the comment section. Don’t forget to leave your current email address so I can get ahold of you. The giveaway deadline is tomorrow, Wednesday, December 16 at 3 p.m (Pacific Standard Time). This giveaway is good for only my United States readers; sorry, my international folks. I will get to you in due time, I promise.

Happy holidays to all of you! If I had enough time/money, I’d schedule a big fat meetup where we can all laugh over hot drinks and good food. For now, this small giveaway will have to do. You have 24 hours to tell me what your Christmas dessert is. Get cracking and good luck :)

Laura - Peppermint Bark by far. I love the marriage of peppermint and chocolate during the holidays.

December 15, 2009 - 3:43 pm

Alice - eggnog!

December 15, 2009 - 4:40 pm

Julie - My family always had a big cookie platter with all of our different types of cookies for dessert. Nothing means Christmas more to me than cut out decorated sugar cookies!

December 15, 2009 - 4:45 pm

Rebecca - My Mom’s hello dolly bars :)

December 15, 2009 - 4:51 pm

lizzybef - I’m partial to my grandmother’s star cookies. They’re a shortbread cookie with margarine, brown sugar, and flour, but she always cuts them in star shapes, so that’s what they are! They’re fantastic!

December 15, 2009 - 5:14 pm

Sarah Schneider - My favourite dessert to eat is a chocolate and orange tart I love to make because I get to caramelize oranges. The house always smells especially Christmasy afterwards! But one of my favourite desserts to make is cinnamon roles for my dad, although he calls them “snails”.

December 15, 2009 - 5:40 pm

Aleta - My favorite x-mas dessert is my mother’s snowballs. Scoops of vanilla ice cream rolled in shredded coconut with a blue candle on top.

December 15, 2009 - 5:47 pm

Dolce - Tomorrow is, huh, Wednesday the 16th (you got me freaking out and running to check a calendar because I start a new job on the 16th which is, not Thursday but definitely tomorrow).

That being said, I have to admit that I am so NOT a fan of “la buche de Noel” which I would inevitably get, loaded with chestnut puree, and covered with buttercream, every CHristmas as a kid…. I guess now, I am happy with cookies, gingerbread men, and clementines, much easier to nibble on after a huge dinner!

December 15, 2009 - 6:03 pm

Karen - Cookies, because I can eat more than one. Well I can eat more than one of most desserts, but I feel allowed to eat more than one cookie. My favorite for the holiday is called the pecan puff, and it’s rolled in powdered sugar, so it is extra messy. Yum.

Cheers and Happy Holidays,

*Heather*

Lauren - I love all kinds of Christmas themed chocolate candy. I’m really excited to go home and eat some, because my Halloween candy officially ran out yesterday. To be totally honest, I love all holiday Chocolate candy. However, if I’m going to make a dessert for the table, Martha Stewart has a simple, easy, delicious recipe for Chocolate Pecan Pie.

December 16, 2009 - 7:43 am

Marie M. - Champorado. It’s a simple Filipino dessert consisting of sticky rice and cocoa powder. It’s basically chocolate rice pudding. Some people put milk and sugar into it. I have a habit of using sweetened condensed milk. And it always tastes best when served warm.

I have very fond memories of Christmas morning waking up cold and hungry. But instead of eating a hot bowl of oatmeal or cold cereal, I got to eat champorado. As a kid, getting the chance to eat chocolate for breakfast was the best.

Thanks for always having amazing blog posts and recipes. I have impressed many with your recipes and always recommend your recipes to anyone for every reason under the sun. Thanks again!

December 16, 2009 - 10:20 am

Rachel - My favorite Christmas dessert is a sugar cookie. I know, I know not as exciting as say tarts or those triple layer cakes but these are not just any sugar cookie. My grandma started making them from a recipe in the Joy of Cooking when my dad was a kid. She passed the recipe down to my parents and we have made them every year for as long as I can remember. My sister and I would invite our friends over to help decorate and by the time we were finished there was more frosting on the kitchen counter than on some of the cookies. I’m going to visit my parents this Friday and I can’t wait to make our cookies!

December 16, 2009 - 8:23 pm
