The first time I visited One Girl Cookies, it was with Lindsay last summer and we had just gotten done with brunch. This time, after a quick shopping trip with my friend Robin, I made a beeline for this bakery, knowing that we both were in for it.
On this picture-perfect tree-lined street in Cobble Hill, One Girl Cookies is my quintessential bakery. Bright, airy, warm, and inviting. Isn’t it funny how some bakeries can welcome you like an old friend, with a big fat grin and a platter of sweet treats? I imagine what my own cafe would look like, feel like, and this is it. I was already a fan of One Girl and I hadn’t even tried their offerings yet.
Delicate tiny cookies and soft cakes greeted us when walking in. You know that feeling when start to salivate at the thought of a some food item? Hello, that was me. However, after downing a big platter of food earlier in the day, I was at max capacity. I sadly had to turn away from the cake, but instead feasted my eyes on their array of teeny-tiny cookies.
I wanted to balance out the flavors so instead of going with only chocolate, I picked up the Penelope and of course, a chocolate whoopie pie. The Penelope is a traditional butter cookie with a dollop of apricot preserve and a sprinkling of chopped nuts on top. Sounds ridiculously simple and boring right? It was so delicious. The crunch of the nuts with the butter cookie… I can’t wait to attempt to replicate it!
Last, but not least, was the chocolate whoopee pie (pictured above). These chocolate sandwich cookies with cream filling can be hit-or-miss with me. However One Girl knows how to do them right! The cookie was soft and moist, and the filling was lightly vanilla flavored. not overpowering, just right.
If you are ever in the Cobble Hill neighborhood, I strongly encourage you to check out One Girl and sample their classic cookie collection. I recently bought their cookbook and am looking forward to trying out their recipes. Also, I plan on taking a few baking classes with friends come summertime. I guess you could say I’m obsessed.
