New York Diary: Let’s Do Dough

new york doughnuts

I have kind of become a doughnut connoisseur since moving to New York, which is strange since I wasn’t a big doughnut aficionado when I lived in California. It’s probably because here in New York? Doughnuts are taken seriously. I mean WAY seriously. I’ve been to Doughnut Plant, where the fried treats are pretty delicious but I’ve heard only good things about Dough, a doughnut shop in Brooklyn. I’ve never been to the actual storefront but have had their treats at Smorgasbord and yesterday, my friend Ranu & I ventured to the Brooklyn Flea where we sampled a doughnut from Dough.

You guys, this wasn’t just any doughnut. This was the doughnut to end ALL doughnuts. It was a Dulce de Leche yeast doughnut and I can’t tell you how heavenly it was. It was soft, perfectly fried, with a sweet coating and sliced almonds on top. I mean, this was the best. My last night on earth would consist of this and maybe a vat of my mom’s fried rice. Not at the same time but you get my drift…

Stephanie - As another former Californian, current New Yorker, I too was not a big doughnut aficionado. I have been dying to try Dough, though. I’ve seen them at the Smorgasburg, but didn’t have the chance to taste. I want to check out their storefront. Maybe I will finally make my way to Bed-Stuy for some Do or Dine and Dough. I’m digging the sliced almonds on top!

Kelly Senyei (Just a Taste) - I LOVE this post! I, too, have become a bit of a doughnut fiend since moving to NYC. I haven’t tried the one pictured above yet, but my current favorite is the pistachio doughnut at Balthazar Bakery. Yum!
