I hate to admit it but I wasn’t blown away by fashion week this season.
It’s entirely my fault; you see, I’ve lost that old insatiable need to devour all things fashion. Not sure if it’s because of my new job or just the place I’m in with my life but I only went to a few shows this past season and that was enough for me. To be fair, I was never a staple at fashion week, more like a passerby that popped in for work last year. Then hurriedly bounced out and returned to my regular life.
The one thing that I did notice and enjoy about this season was that all the designers created looks that fit every woman. From sleek to soft to glam rock to trendsetter, there was something very wearable that each woman could add to her wardrobe, regardless if she was a student, mom, teacher, lawyer, doctor etc. The collections diversity and overall appeal fit with my lifestyle as I am a girl who wears many hats and need pieces that fit that lifestyle. You can an uptown lady who brunches or a downtown clubgoer who just wants to shimmy; the shows offered looks for all you ladies.
A few of my favorite pieces are shown above. I could almost dedicate an entire post to the beauty that was the Billy Reid show – it was that good. Also, tapping into my girlie-romantic side, I thought Lela Rose was really lovely, especially for ladies who want to look soft but not matronly. And of course, you can’t go wrong with Jason Wu. There’s a reason why everyone is talking about him. It’s time to get on the Wu train, folks.
We’ve still got the Milan and Paris shows too so get ready. I’m a big fan of Erdem, Chloe, Valentino, Dries van Noten, and Dior so expect a few recaps from those too. From top to bottom, clockwise: Lela Rose, Billy Reid, Prabal Gurung, Band of Outsiders, Jason Wu, and Diane von Furstenburg.
