How to Say Goodbye to March

Say yes to a last minute happy hour party and be thrilled to see a good friend thriving in her new pad and literally die over her new apt.

Start to think of new apartments outside of Manhattan.

Drink, eat and laugh in only a way that you can among friends.

Sit outside, watching the sun set and realize that sometimes, all you need to do is look at the sky to realize that your silly issues don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.

Ponder what life would be like if you had never made the leap to New York, had never found these crazy ladies you call friends, had never taken risks, had never had your heart broken, had never made an effort to get back up after being pushed around.

Laugh hysterically while rewatching old clips of Justin Timberlake from back in the day and then swoon over his new, dapper look.

Dance inappropriately to R. Kelly’s Ignition remix. Twice.

Do your best Janet Jackson imitation in a room full of girls and remember how great she is, and was.

Realize life is so much better when taking risks and vow to never change that POV, to never let your fear stop you from doing exactly what you want.

Listen to an old song  at 3 am while making your way back to Manhattan on the 7 train that makes you think of your high school years. Smile, because the view in front of you is even better than you could have imagined.

Get back in the kitchen to make carrot cupcakes for friends and enjoy the getting-dirty-in-the-kitchen process.

Talk to your mom and realize how much you miss her and start counting down the days till you are back in California.

Venture to a new part of Brooklyn where the stars are actually visible from the sidewalk.

Dance in a way that is a total body workout, where the swear pours off your forehead and your hair sticks to the back of your neck.

Feel your body move to the beat of your favorite songs and feel no shame for knowing all the lyrics to said songs. Honestly, if you can’t sing to “Big Poppa”, “Hypnotize”, “Real Love” and “Show Me What You Got” than you are doing something wrong.

Make eyes with a few strapping gentlemen but stick to your close friends because only they can be your true dancing partners.

Fall into bed at 3 am with music still ringing in your head.

Wake up the next morning, sore limbs, mild headache, mascara running under your eyes and smile at your hot-mess-state.

Savor a sweet treat while people watching at your favorite cafe and think. About it all.

Enjoy a relaxing brunch with new and old friends and realize, hey this damn month is over and it’s time to start an even better one with people who can make you laugh and are there for you when you cry.

Sink into bed and be glad that March is over, that February is over, that WINTER is over. Not because it was particularly bad, in fact it was pretty amazing. No, be glad that it’s over because you know that there are better things in store. That’s what this past weekend has taught you.

April, what have you got in store for me?
