Great post! I also made this pie for Thanksgiving, but used the tart crust. For a crisper golden crust, don't bake the pie on a cookie sheet. I find that the cookies sheet keeps the bottom from baking properly and it comes out a little underdone. To prevent juices (apple pies) from oozing out onto your oven, make a little "tray" using heavy duty aluminum foil and slip it on the rack directly beneath the pie. To make the tray, fold the edges of the foil about an inch on every side and crimp the corners so that the rims of the tray stand upright. The best way to describe this is how you would do it when you assemble a gift box from a clothing store. Works like a charm every time.

Loos delish! I noticed your comment about the less-than-perfect crust and I think we are always our own toughest critics! I'm sure no one else noticed that it wasn't what you had imagined it would be and it sounds like it was a hit!

Yes, in Austria the Vanillekipferl recipe is passed on from generation to generation. My grandmother made them and my mother made them. Now I make them. Have a look: Vanillekipferl.

Yum, pumpkin pie is such a treat this time of year :) I think yours looks fabulous-glad you got your first one under your belt! And it sounds like you have a hectic month or so ahead of you. I'm getting ready for finals and such as well and you know what I think would make it all better? A cheesecake-so I'm certainly looking forward to that post!

You're such a rock star. Good luck in the next few weeks! I know you're going mad with school and things... so hang in there girlie!

My hat is off to you for making all of the desserts! I made half the food for our meal, and we only had 10 mouths to feed! You should definitely be proud! I'm dying to get my hands on that book. It's on my Christmas list, but if hubby doesn't give it to me I may be getting myself a New Year's present. :-)

I hope you get over your kitchen fatigue soon, too. I know she misses you. And next time if you have trouble with the piecrust, my family likes to use homemade graham cracker crust for pumpkin pies. It's a great flavor combination and maybe could take away some of the piecrust stress next time. :)
